2014-08-17 My article in the National Post

Heya everybody,

On August 6th, Barbara Kay wrote an article in the National Post (one of only two national newspapers in Canada) called “Transgendered advocacy has gone too far”. The article was partly based on Paul McHugh’s poor piece in the Wall Street Journal (discussed in my 2014-06-25 update and again on 2014-07-05). I did some commenting, and an e-mail conversation with Barbara Kay evolved …

She was really fair and correct in the discussion, and suggested I’d write an answer to her opinion piece… and voila – I got published: “Relieving the pain that stigma causes” in the National Post from August 15th. I’m really thankful to her and the editor for giving me this chance, so that an opposing viewpoint is on record. Unfortunately, the title (not mine) does not really give a clue as to what the article is about, and the internal linking on the National Post’s website was not as prominent, so my article would have been read by far fewer people than the original one by Barbara Kay. But anyway, I have to say I’m grateful to the National Post for allowing diverse points of view.

Oh, and I experienced again how hard it is to write… my article is a response to Barbara Kay’s, so I wanted to address her points, supporting my replies with evidence, all the while considering the lay audience… and getting down to the right word count! Anyway, I hope it’s readable and has some effect …

Take care and have a good Sunday 😸
